Winchester has over 100 sports clubs and organisations, representing over 30 different sports and activities and are always welcoming of new members, whether looking to start a sport for the first time or looking for more competitive participation.nThe city and surrounding areas have a rich sporting history with some clubs amongst the oldest in the country; Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club dates from the 1860s, Winchester Football Club was founded in 1884, followed by Winchester Hockey Club in 1891 and Winchester Rugby Football Club established in 1929.
